ABOUT US

Green Sprout Baby (now Sproutling Love) began in 2007 with the birth of my son, Ezekiel. I was looking for a way to save money, and the environment as well as provide a healthy way of diapering for him. I started purchaseing cloth diapers but never really found something that I loved. At the time I was making handbags and so I stopped making handbags, and switched to diapers.

Meanwhile, my Mom who was a business manager decided to join me on my venture...

and Green Sprout Baby was born!

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Each child goes through approximately 6,750 disposables (75 cloth)

It takes over 75 years for a disposable to decompose (under 1 year for cloth) making up the 3rd largest single consumer item in our waste system

Disposables send human fecal matter into our landfills where it can leach into ground water and possibly spread disease.

1 billion trees are cut down annually to produce disposables.

Cloth diapers can be passed down to siblings, saving you and the environment even more. Cloth diapers release solid waste where it belongs- into the sewage system where it is treated with other household waste water

Local Long Island Fact: The Holtsville Ecology Center is the site of the old landfill. It has been there for over 30 years and they are still digging up old diapers!

COST FACTORS

It will cost you on average $2,400 with the use of disposables, compared to approximately $500.00 with cloth. Start up costs can be high, which is why we offer the layaway plan.

HEALTH FACTORS

Scientists believe disposable diapers could be linked to both male infertility and testicular cancer.

Studies have been done linking disposables to asthma

Disposables are made with a gel substance called sodium polyacrylate, which is associated with toxic shock syndrome. The same chemical used in tampons until banned in 1985.

The use of cloth diapers decreases diaper rash because the fabrics used have increased air flow.

It does take some getting used to, cleaning dirty diapers instead of just throwing them away. But its such a small amount of time to take out of your day that can have such a monumentally positive effect on our environment and your baby.

WHY FITTEDS:

There are a few ways to go with cloth diapering: Fitteds, All in Ones, Prefolds. I believe in cloth diapering, variety is key. I own a AIO and it's very conveinent to have when your out and about. No cover needed just throw it on and go.

But fitteds are the healthiest option for your baby. They give you the ability to use breathable natural fiber covers, such as wool and bamboo. AIO's are made with a laminated fabric which does not allow your babies body to breathe and are often made with polyester as the next to skin fabric. I would not want to wear polyester underwear topped with a plastic bag, would you?

Our diapers are made with Bamboo Organic Cotton.

Throw on a pair of wool or fleece karate pants and you have a simple and adorable way to cloth diaper.

Bamboo fabrics are naturally antibacterial, anti fungal, hypo-allergenic, even after multiple washings

Naturally grown with out pesticides & biodegradable.

Naturally helps block UVA & UVB rays

Recyclable

Bamboo has wicking abilities, pulling moisture away from the skin.

3-4 times more absorbent than cotton

MUCH softer than hemp, keeping it's softness wash after wash.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

DIAPERS:

Caring for your Green Sprout diapers is easy. For new diapers run them thru 3 cycles to achieve optimum absorbency.

Use a washable pail liner, this way you can throw the bag and diapers all in and not have to touch anything.

Put soiled diapers in the wash on warm. Use a liquid detergent such as BioKleen, LifeKind, or Arm & Hammer Essentials Free. You may add 1/2 cup of baking soda to neutralize urine.

Hang dry or put them in the dryer on a regular cycle.
Haning will increase the life of your elastic.

FLEECE SOAKERS:

You can throw these in the wash and dryer along with your diapers.

Remove from dryer once dry, do not wait for diapers to finish drying. This will save your elastic.

WOOL SOAKERS/KARATE PANTS

Fill sink and let sit in soapy water for 10 minutes.

Drain sink and gently fold your cover to remove water.

Refill sink with warm water and add Lanolin, such as Northern Essence Liquid Lanolin. Follow instructions on your lanolin bottle. This step wont take long.

Once your done fold to remove water, lay flat on a dry towell. Roll the towell to remove as much water as possible

Lay flat to dry.
